Explorations in Maya
Create a sense of balance within your composition. Develop your favorite sketch into a Maya scene.
This scene should contain at least 3 meshes and a simple set for your geometry to rest on. Don’t create an empty, weightless void but instead, make sure there’s a sense of gravity in your placement of objects. Limit the elements of your scene to primitives, quickly modified meshes, and rendered curves. For the material, use only a white diffuse standard surface shader. Don’t add any other parameter to the shader. Use no more than 2 lights, but try many different lighting scenarios.

Exploration of the monolithic Standard Surface shader. Through this shader, you can create a huge variety of materials. You can explore this shader by continuing with an existing scene or starting anew with the following constraints:
1. Create a palette to use in your composition from color harmonies, reference from nature, intuition, or the aiColorJitter node. Make sure the materials you apply only deviate from each other through the base color.
2. Use a single color swatch ramp node ( monochromatic ) and plug it into the base color of an array of Standard Surface shaders with varied material attributes.

A gold shader was created by plugging the complexIOR node into the base color of a StandardSurface. Render layers were used to provide alternate shaders, visibility, and alternative render settings.
